PIV in underwater applications
Underwater Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements face unique obstacles primarily due to the physical properties of water and the logistical difficulties of submerged environments.
Equipment must be housed in specialized, watertight and pressure-resistant casings. Additionally, often the components are exposed to saltwater and high loads which creates additional design complexities.
Submerged instruments, especially those towed behind a ship or carriage, are susceptible to vibrations that can introduce noise and errors into the velocity data.
Our solutions to these challenges are deployed world-wide in underwater PIV applications such as full-scale ship hydrodynamics and wake analysis, marine biology and locomotion studies, offshore engineering and structure loading, oceanography and turbulence research.
