Imaging of Flames in the visible and ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths using chemiluminescence and a UV sensitive camera offers unique capabilities for combustion diagnostics due to the simple hardware configuration and nonintrusive nature of the chemiluminescence approach.
The technique does not require a laser, so is ‘eye-safe’. It is a line-of-sight technique that integrates the luminescence along the lines of sight viewed by the camera. With this it differs from other Flame Imaging approaches, such as C-LIF systems, that utilize complex dye laser and a laser light sheet to obtain data in planar cross sections of the process.
The peak emission intensities from chemiluminescent electronically excited species can act as markers of the flame front and the heat release zone and can also be used to map the spatial distribution of the intrinsic flame parameters such as equivalence (fuel-to-air) ratio, local heat release rate and even gas temperature.
The CH* radical has chemiluminescence in the visible whereas OH* is in the UV wavelength range. Flame imaging of the specific wavelengths can be achieved using filters to isolate these specific constituents.
Dantec now offers a very sensitive, low noise, UV and visible wavelength sensitive camera that makes chemiluminescence a viable option for more flame imaging applications. Ideal for both OH* and CH* chemiluminescence. Flame imaging can now be conducted without the investment and management of complex hardware such as image intensifiers and dye lasers.
We also offer camera lenses for UV and visible, and appropriate filters for OH* and CH*. The image acquisition, storage and analysis are handled by our imaging software DynamicStudio.
