Motion analysis involves tracking discrete points (or markers) of interest on moving components/bodies for the investigation of how a point moves relative to another point or to a stationary body.
Measurement information usually obtained from motion analysis are typically discrete vector values of (relative) position, displacement, velocity, acceleration, and 6DOF rotation.
Additionally, alignment and rotation measurements are also performed for motion analysis applications, which attempt to quantify out-of-plane displacement (wobbling) from a rotation.
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and Point (Marker) Tracking is often performed for motion analysis for the following applications, including.
- Relative displacement measurements of components
- Relative displacement measurements of robotic arms (for reliability simulation)
- Wobbling testing of components
