With the release version 4.4.5, Istra4D brings new, exciting and useful functionalities and features to our customers such as an enhanced user interface, smarter daily handling/operation of measurement campaigns, and software support for the latest hardware.
New Istra4D release providing new benefits for both Shearography and Digital Image Correlation users.
NEW SHEAROGRAPHY FEATURES
The Istra4D release obviously supports our latest FlawExplorer inspection system, a compact, non-contact and full-field Laser Shearography system for real-time defect detection of delamination, disbonds, kissing bonds, wrinkling, impact damage, voids, crushed core and other anomalies in composite materials.
Localize your defects within seconds
A new functionality with the latest Istra4D release allows users not only to detect defects immediately, but also to localize the detected defects on the surface of the inspected component. The overlay function superposes a life camera image with the Shearography inspection image. The inspector can now easily mark the defect location on the surface of the inspected component. This functionality makes in-field service inspection very effective, particularly in situations where a localized repair has to be performed.
Defect & annotation marker module
The enhanced Shearography annotation feature doesn’t only support to mark and name defects, but also to quantify the size of defect areas which allows the operator to measure and keep track of defect progression over successive inspection sessions. The defect marking directly in the software saves time and, in combination with the new reporting functionalities, enables the inspector to perform the entire inspection process within Istra4D – from defect detection and notation over documentation and reporting in an industry conform format.
Create series inspection reports
The Istra4D Shearography report generation module has also been improved so that new inspection report pages can be added to an existing report. This allow users to create reports on a series of inspection campaigns or combining inspection reports from several measurements. In addition, the report generator automatically adds sensor and system parameters to any inspection report for traceability purposes. All in all, the Istra4D reporting module makes sure your inspection results are comprehensive, repeatable and configurable for compliance with your company standards.
NEW DIGITAL IMAGE CORRELATION FEATURES
New modal shape analysis
A new software functionality supports the identification, analysis and characterization of modal shapes derived from DIC measurement data. The user-friendly module analyzes and determines the Eigen-frequencies of an inspection object. The software interface intuitively guides the user through the necessary analysis steps. It then shows the matching mode shapes in a graphical and animated format. All captured data and graphs can be exported and printed with the SciLab Open Application Interface and the powerful HDF5 export capabilities.

Quick and trivial definition of minimum and maximum values
Minimum and maximum values of any measurement results are now automatically calculated. Extreme values of any selected metrics are provided together with related location information on the image of the test object.
Other user benefits
Several other software functionalities that improve performance and user experience are part for the new release. For example, it is now possible to show measurement values directly in the visualization image in order improve the inspection report. Another new feature is the font size selector that allows user to adjust font size for better readability. Finally, an intelligent step selection mode feature allows users to select sophisticated step patterns for the evaluation of the DIC images.
