Collaboration between the von Karman Institute and Dantec Dynamics

The von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI) in Brussels, Belgium was founded in 1956, the scientific non-profit organization has played a major role in the development of PIV. This world-renowned Institute provides post-graduate education specialized in fluid dynamics and encourages “training in research through research“. The VKI furthermore offers courses to get training in various fields of science open for public. Besides its educational mission, the VKI performs experimental and numerical research in the fields of Aeronautics and Aerospace, Turbomachinery and Propulsion, Environmental and Applied Fluid Dynamics.

The collaboration aims at the joint development of improved methods and measurement solutions. The first research project aims at developing advanced pre-processing and post-processing tools for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), based on data-driven modal analysis. The first benchmark test case, recently measured at the VKI, consists of the flow past a cylinder in accelerating conditions, producing the famous von Karman Street in non-stationary conditions.
