In this application video, a 2-cam HSpeedDIC system is used to measure the total displacement of a
satellite fairing when opened and to determine if any misalignment occurs during the test with respect
to the closed position. The test was completed in 2 seconds using a frame rate of 1000 Hz and the
Field-of-View was 4 m x 3 m.
In the application video, various new features & functions of Istra4D V4.12 are presented.
In the correlation evaluation mode, the “auto-detect optimal facet/subset size” function finds the best
or optimal facet/subset size for the correlation evaluation, without requiring the user to subjectively
guess the facet size to use. In Istra4D V4.12, the “grid spacing selection assistance” function helps the
use select the grid spacing/step size based on determined fractions of the facet/subset size.
Using Point Tracking, of tracked facets/subset, all found points are highlighted green with the respective
3D-back projection residuum listed in all steps. The name of the tracked subsets can be changed and the
trajectory trace plot of the points can be seen. As can be seen, the fairing is firstly raised within the first
0.5 seconds, then vibrates, and the bottom section moves out at a -45? angle whilst the top section moves
out at a -30? angle and then eventually plateaus.
In the graphical visualization, the 2D-overlay of the total displacement (in mm) can be seen. The top section
of the fairing moves ca. 1.7 m and the bottom section ca. 0.9 m.
With rigid body motion removed (RBMR), the expectation is that the RBMR returns a value of zero for the
duration of the test. Using a virtual line gauge, the path length change of the line is plotted. It can be seen
that vibrations occur and the fairing bends.
