The transition from the use of hydrocarbons to alternative fuels such as hydrogen is expected to be a very complex and expensive task. A detailed analysis of the fuel and oxidant mixing process is required.
In the present work, the characteristics of natural gas-hydrogen-air reacting mixtures were investigated inside a model swirl combustor using Laser Doppler Anemometry and Particle Imaging Velocimetry techniques. Swirling motion is an efficient way to improve and control mixing rate and flame stabilization. PIV and LDA are complimentary velocity measurement techniques used to investigate how the different swirl flame structures interact with each other.
