In this application video, a 3-cam 5 Mpx FlexDIC system is used to measure (the removal of)
rigid body motion (RBM) and crack-tip opening strain of a submerged CT-demonstration
sample in a filled water tank.
In the application video, various new features & functions of Istra4D V4.12 are presented.
In the live setup acquisition mode, the Camera (Position) Name Overlay is available that allows
users to custom-define the camera name and display its position in the visualization window
(particularly helpful for MulticamDIC setups). Also, the Camera (Reticles) Crosshair Sizing is also
available that allows users to custom-align the test object specimen with respect to the central
(reference) camera optical axis.
Another feature in V4.12 is the Facet Selection Save Function in the Speckle Pattern Quality Evaluator.
This allows users to save the facet as selected in the quality evaluator for future import directly into
the correlation evaluation.
In the projection calibration mode, the new Refractive Index Volumetric (Calibration) Method (RIVM)
is presented, that accounts for the different refractive indexes of the various medium of the DIC setup.
V4.12 optimizes the input parameters of refractive indexes during the live, projection calibration. QR-code
recognition can also be performed underwater.
The (real-time) positioning assistance provides live, feedback of the relative displacement between the current
(live) image with respect to a reference state. The Virtual Guage Length Indicator, in V4.12, allows users to
physically measure the scale/size of the test object. It also computes the relative distance between images
so a DIC system can be repositioned (useful for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications).
In the graphical visualization, the 2D-overlay of the total displacement with rigid body motion removed
(RBMR) (in microns) can be seen. From the rigid body motion test, the expectation is that the RBMR
returns a value of zero. The average RMBR displacement returned 5 micron. The 2D-overlay of the
LaGrangian principal strain 1 (in ustrain) returned a max strain of 2000 ustrain (2 mstrain) at the crack-tip opening.
