Scientists and engineers in biomaterials research rely on measurements to make breakthroughs in applied research, technology development, and quality assurance. There are many challenges in biomaterials research. One of them is that many specimens are very small and sensitive – therefore it is extremely difficult to measure their deformation and strain.
Dantec’s Q-400 Microscopic Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system was successfully used in tensile tests of micro specimens made of titanium used for hip implant after fatigue lifetime tests. Results included 3D map of displacement and strain, Modulus, Poisson Ratio, and many other results.
