Compression test of a cylindrical rock specimen with a 2-cam FlexDIC system in Istra4D V4.11

In this application video, a 2-cam (5 Mpx) FlexDIC system was used to measure the poisson ratio
and strain concentration of a cylindrical rock specimen in a compression test.
In the graphical visualization, the effective (von Mises) strain can be seen in the 2D-overlay and
temporal plots from a line gauge (path length change) and polygon gauge (max strain over surface)
can be seen.
Through execution of the poisson ratio analysis application module, the HDF5 data of the visualization
is imported and a virtual strain guage (VSG) is used to analyse the longitudinal and transversal strain,
for the determination of the poisson ratio.
Typically for rock a poisson ratio should be between 0.1-0.4, however it can be seen from the test that
this number is surpassed relatively quickly. A poisson ratio of 1.0 indicates that the sample had already
failure at around Step 60, far before the test ends. Upon closer analyses of the 2D-overlay strain (using
an automatic step-based scale range), it is clear that in the bottom right corner a strain concentration
cause premature failure of the rock specimen.
