20th International Symposium on Applications of Laser and Imaging Techniques to Fluid Mechanics

The laser is one of the remarkable inventions of the 20th century that provided the most innovative and useful tools for experimental fluid mechanics. Technological developments in lasers, detectors, electronics, and computers have then continued to be the source of new techniques, improved accuracy, higher spatial or temporal resolution and new applications. This progress promises to continue in the future.

The International Symposia on Applications of Laser and Imaging Techniques to Fluid Mechanics often referred to just as the “Lisbon Symposium” have been persistently providing forums for promoting the interchange of new ideas on the development of advanced techniques for flow measurement and on the latest applications in the field.

The conference program is composed of scientific and technologic contributions, bringing together world leading manufacturers of laser and imaging equipment for fluid flow research to show off their most recent developments and achievements face-to-face with a qualified audience looking for the latest tools and technologies.

This year we welcome two other events taking place in Lisbon in the preceding days:

The 8th International Advanced Course on Liquid Interfaces, Drops and Sprays (LIDESP) is being organized to take place in Lisbon the week before the LISBON SYMPOSIUM. This workshop, which addresses the phenomena of drops and sprays for an audience of students, researchers and industrial, will focus, this year, on the experimental techniques. We will be offering a special combo discount for participants in both events.

Also, the third workshop and first challenge on data assimilation & CFD processing for PIV and Lagrangian Particle Tracking will take place in Lisbon on 11th and 12th of July, just before the Lisbon Symposium; all relevant information is reported in the workshop website.
