Istra4D is one of the only commercially available DIC software platforms that support; CoaXPress-12, 10GigE, USB3, and GigE giving users the flexibility to choose the best camera technology for any given materials testing application. At Dantec Dynamics, we embrace, integrate, and support the very latest in what camera technology has to offer so you can do more with Digital Image Correlation (DIC).
Material testing applications have a wide range of measurement requirements. Specimens differ in size from millimeters (mm2) to multiple meters (m2) which require a wide selection range of camera resolutions from small (<1 Mpx) to ultra-high (>10 Mpx). Samples can be loaded: uniaxially, biaxially, or multiaxially, requiring; planar, bi-planar, or circular multicamera setup configurations. Testing speeds can be slow (quasi-static) or fast (fatigue & vibration) requiring specific camera frame rates to capture precise measurement events. Cable lengths are also important to consider when testing components within test rigs. Ultimately size is not a challenge for Istra4D, as a specialist in multicamera technology, up to 16 cameras can acquire simultaneous online measurements just using one PC!
The growing demand for higher resolution as well as faster frame rates is a continuing trend that is pushing the performance envelope of camera technology. The performance of most camera types often described through maximum resolution & frame rate, is limited by the bandwidth of their corresponding transport layer. The transport layer also determines the maximum cable length available, which is a factor that can limit the range of a DIC rig setup. Other limitations are multicamera capabilities, which are dependent on the PC & connection capacity.
The attributes of each camera model are easily identifiable through icons that categorize the respective characteristics of; camera resolution, frame rate, cable length & multi-camera setup capability.
