Calibration Targets

A calibration target is a reference object used to calibrate the projection of a DIC experiment. At Dantec Dynamics, we offer 19 different calibration targets divided into two series of calibration target types

  • Single/Double-Sided -Very High-Precision – Ceramic Targets (SS/DS-VHP-CE) for FoVs from 1 x 1 mm up to 80 x 80 mm, and
  • Double-Sided -High-Precision – Aluminium Honeycomb Targets (DS-HP-AH) for FoVs from 80 x 80 mm up to 1000 x 1000 mm

Single/Double-Sided -Very High-Precision – Ceramic Targets (SS/DS-VHP-CE) are made from an aluminum oxide substrate and can be used for FoVs from 1 x 1 mm up to 80 x 80 mm, which for most applications require a stereoscopic microscope (DSM 61030) applications or vertical mounting rail (DSM 61020).

Double-Sided -High-Precision – Aluminium Honeycomb Targets (DS-HP-AH) are made from AlucoreTM. They are used for FoVs from 80 x 80 mm up to 1000 x 1000 mm, which suitable for most standard DIC applications. All targets from the DS-HP-AH series are double-sided targets for bi-planar, double-sided testing ( i.e. with the MulticamDIC system) which allow the thickness of a sample to be measured for the determination of the true strain.

Each calibration target (SS/DS-VHP-CE => 40 mm & DS-HP-AH) has a physical serial number with QR-code. During the projection calibration, the QR-code is automatically identified by Istra4D and the calibration parameters are uploaded to the SW. Automatic Identification through QR-code recognition saves time for the user, as any target presented in front of a DIC system is detected, without the user having to search for the respective target in a calibration target file list.  Another advantage is that QR-code recognition removes the possibility of mistakes being made through the incorrect selection of the matching ID.

Users also have the possibility to create & print-out custom-defined black or white calibration targets with their associated QR-codes. Older Dantec-issued calibration target can also be retrofitted as well. Printing calibration targets has the advantage that users can perform a measurement without having to purchase a calibration target. This allows for quick & simple DIC measurements to be performed with lower accuracy (measurement uncertainty) requirements.
