ESPI Strain Sensor (Q-100)

Strain and Stress Measurement

  • Increases safety : Finds "hot spots" and stress concentrations

  • Enabling technology : Measurement on contours and any material

  • Saves costs : Fewer failures and shorter occupation of test benches

The Strain Sensor Q-100 is a unique device for rapid strain measurement on any component with very little preparation.

The Q-100 sensor head is simply positioned on the surface of the area to be inspected and it automatically analyzes the geometry and deformation of the inspected area when a load is applied to the component.

From these data the complete strain field is derived within seconds.

The Q-100 strain measurement does not require preparation work and can significantly reduce the testing time for complex components. The full field measurement enables the detection of strain gradients and increases the reliability of the strain analysis.

Q-100 uses the principle of 3D speckle interferometry to measure the deformation and contour of the measuring field with sub-micrometer accuracy. This allows the research and lab test engineer to quantify the three dimensional surface deformation and strain field automatically. With known material properties (E-modulus, Poisson ratio) the stress distribution can also be determined.

The sensor head is directly attached to the component to be inspected. For this reason, different mounting devices can be provided.

Fatigue Test with ESPI sensor

Fatigue test of wheel support.

ESPI sensor on truck chassis

Stress analysis on a truck body panel.

ESPI sensor attached at a Helicopter blade

Torque of helicopter composite blade.

FEA analysis

Data export in VRML allows easy correlation with FEA.

The Q-100 ESPI sensor is readily calibrated and does not require special elaborate training for reliable use. It is easy to operate and can be applied quickly in a wide variety of testing set-ups.
