Volume Mapping PIV

 
The FlowMap Volume Mapping Solution is designed to deliver multiple 3D stereoscopic PIV mappings in cross-sections of a flow within a very short time interval.

The Volume Mapping Solution delivers multiple 3D stereoscopic PIV mappings in cross-sections of a flow within a very short time interval, while the integrated software solution controls all PIV system elements and the traverse mechanism.

The PIV cameras and light sheet delivery are mounted on a Dantec Dynamics traverse. The two Dantec Dynamics HiSense cameras are positioned in a stereoscopic arrangement and are aimed at the light sheet in a 60 degree back scatter configuration.

 

The light sheet is delivered from a 30 mJ laser via a Dantec Dynamics light guide arm. The total length of the system is just 1 meter plus traverse length, in this case 300 mm. An alternative arrangement for the cameras and light sheet is to mount the laser directly onto the traverse.

Online 3D stereoscopic PIV measurement

The data acquisition is defined in the DynamicStudio software in six individual set-ups which are auto-executed. The set-up for each of the z-positions of the traverse mechanism provides maximum flexibility in optimising the configuration of the measurement according to the flow characteristics in the given cross section.
During auto-execution of the six set-ups, the 3D stereoscopic measurement results are shown on-line. The total execution time for recording 50 samples in each of the six positions, each including 2300 vectors per sample, is less than 10 minutes.

The total volume mapped is 60 x 160 x 250 mm3.
