Laser Doppler Anemometry

Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) is an optical technique ideal for non-intrusive 1D, 2D and 3D point measurement of velocity and turbulence distribution in both free flows and internal flows.

Science and industry apply our LDA systems to gain a clearer understanding of fluid mechanics. The measurement results are important steps in fine-tuning product designs to improve aerodynamic efficiency, quality and safety.

Application areas with Laser Doppler Anemometry include:

  • Wind tunnel velocity experiments for testing aerodynamics of e.g. cars, train, aircrafts buildings and other objects/structures.

  • Velocity measurements in water flows (e.g. research in general hydrodynamics, ship hull design, rotating machinery, pipe flows, channel flow etc.).

  • Spray research where there is a need to measure droplet velocities inside the nozzle or at the nozzle exit.

  • Environmental research (combustion research, wave dynamics, coastal engineering, tidal modelling, river hydrology etc.).

  • Experimental verification of CFD models
